The Hamilton Siphon Bypass Pipeline C is an subsea pipeline across the Brisbane River for the transfer of sewage. The subsea pipeline design and construction methodology is unique for the specific constraints and limitations of the Brisbane river. Close collaboration enabled the team to deliver the project in 11months without disruption to the stakeholders using the river, local community and asset owner.
The permanent design of the pipeline was closely coordinated with the construction team. The river currents and movements were measured, analyzed and assessed to optimize the pipeline installation method reducing the need to rely on conservative theoretical design criteria. Using animation of methods, in conjunction with workshops, and expert pipe installation and vessel stability analysis the team optioneered the installation. The optimal solution resulted in a bespoke design of pipelay barge and stinger. The installation method brought specialist offshore techniques to an unusually high flow turbid river within congested urban environment. The subsea pipeline has delivered a robust permanent design and economical installation technique. Both the on bottom solution and the construction teams engineering approach present unique models that set a new benchmark for the future.
